Sustainable &
local manufacturing

Sédu’s ethos is to care for both people and planet while, giving our customers access to uncompromising comfort and modern designs tailored to their needs.

Foam

The filling of your couch hides a dark secret. The use of Petro-chemicals is an industry standard in the manufacturing of the polyurethane foam that makes up your seat cushions.

Polyurethane is a proven carcinogenic and takes up to 100 years to biodegrade. In addition, the workers in the factories that make this foam are exposed to dangerous chemicals while working for minimum wage.

It’s for the reasons above that we have taken the necessary steps to eradicate this material from our couches.

Our Goal

To replace all polyurethane with Latex by 2023 We chose latex because it is an organic compound meaning, its kind to the environment and sustainable.

Cushion Filling

We only use synthetic down in our factories. It delivers the same level of comfort as traditional down. We source synthetic down that is made from recycled PET. This PET has been collected from beaches and rivers to reduce the amount of waste pollution in our oceans.

By manufacturing our synthetic down in this manner, we recycle 4kg of bottles for every couch sold.

Our Goal

To support small waste collection plants by increasing the demand for synthetic down and recycled PET. We plan to remove 150 000kg of waste for the environment by 2023.

Non-Toxic Materials

How many people has your couch killed? Pretty much all furniture manufacturers use benzene to clean the fabric after production. Benzene is a proven carcinogenic and is a known cause of Leukemia and Lymphoma.

We have and never will use chemicals of this nature in our factories. This does make our lives a bit more difficult however, we know the benefit of preventing harm to all our staff is well worth the extra effort.

When you buy any furniture article from us you can rest in comfort knowing that your couch has been made without harming any people or animals.

Our Goal

To raise awareness of what’s going on in most factories all over the world and initiate a change to responsible manufacturing. #stopbenzene

No Animal Products

Our ethos extends to all facets of our business as previously discussed. We don’t believe in the use of animal products in our products.

We do understand that some customers enjoy the feel of a leather couch, and we plan on offering a sustainable plant-based leather alternative.

Our Goal

To develop and prototype our own plant-based leather alternative with the same feel and lifespan as traditional leather with some added benefits by 2023.

Living Wage for All

Finally, we believe that anybody who works for our company should want to work for us and we strive to create an environment of creativity and empowerment.

That’s why we don’t pay anybody in our staff minimum wage we pay all staff a living wage. The efficiency of our factory enables us to pay our staff far above the industry norm.

We feel very strongly about this point as we want our staff to educate their families and live a comfortable life while upskilling themselves in the process.

Finally, we pay R100 into our own employee endowment trust which we use to empower our employee factories and uplift our local communities.
